What is Desi? How is Desi Calculated?

Desi is a term closely related to shipping processes in the e-commerce world and is frequently encountered. Especially during the product shipping phase, desi plays a significant role and is an important factor that directly affects shipping costs. Desi generally refers to the volume of a product and is calculated in kilograms per cubic meter. One of the ways to succeed in e-commerce is to manage desi calculations accurately and effectively. Incorrect desi values can lead to high shipping costs and consequently customer dissatisfaction. Therefore, it is very important for online store owners to pay attention to desi calculations, optimize the shipping process, and keep their costs under control.

What is Desi?

Desi is a unit of measurement indicating the volume of an item to be transported or shipped. It is frequently used in the transportation and shipping sectors. By calculating the space occupied by items, it plays an important role in determining transportation costs and shipping fees.

Generally, desi calculation involves multiplying the dimensions (length, width, height) of a box or package and dividing by a specific coefficient. As a standard, 1 desi means 1 cubic decimeter.

Additionally, different transportation companies and courier services may use different calculation methods and coefficients that can vary depending on the departure and arrival points. Therefore, it is important to learn the desi calculation method of the relevant company before shipping.

Especially in international shipments, desi calculations allow for pricing based on both the volume and weight of the shipment. This provides a fairer and more accurate pricing method.

How is Desi Calculated?

Desi calculation is a practical method to measure the volume of a material in cubic meters. It is frequently used to cost a product for transportation or storage. The desi calculation formula is as follows: Desi = width (cm) x length (cm) x height (cm) / 3,000. The number 3,000 in this formula indicates that one desi equals 3,000 cubic centimeters.

We can explain the complex calculation more clearly with a simple example. Suppose you have a package with a width of 60 cm, length of 30 cm, and height of 10 cm. You can follow these steps for desi calculation: First, multiply the width, length, and height of the package. That is, 60 x 30 x 10 = 18,000 cubic centimeters.

Then, divide this value by 3,000 in the formula. 18,000 / 3,000 = 6, which is calculated as the volume. This value is determined as the desi value of the package. This metric is an important factor used to determine the space and cost required for transportation or storage of the package.

Desi calculation is widely used especially in the cargo and logistics sectors. It is important for accurately pricing packages and efficiently utilizing transportation capacity. This calculation method allows for evaluating the volumes of packages of different sizes in a standard unit of measurement. By calculating your product's desi value, you can better control shipping and storage costs and reduce the risk of unexpected expenses.

Why is Desi Measurement Used in Shipments?

In shipments, the desi measurement is generally used to determine the volume of the item. This measurement helps to determine the value of a package by considering both weight and size. Especially for courier companies and transportation firms, desi measurement, which is an important criterion, makes the process of transporting and storing packages more efficient. It also has a significant impact on pricing and determining transportation costs. Therefore, using desi measurement in shipments can create a more accurate and fair pricing system.

How is International Desi Calculation Done?

In international shipments, there is a different detail in the desi calculation formula. For international cargo shipments, 1 desi is accepted as 5,000 cubic centimeters, not 3,000. Therefore, instead of the number 3,000 in the formula, 5,000 should be used. Consequently, the international desi calculation formula will be: Desi = width (cm) x length (cm) x height (cm) / 5,000.

For example, when calculating the desi of a package for international shipping, we can use a package with dimensions of 60 x 30 x 10 cm. First, we calculate the volume of the package, which is 60 x 30 x 10 = 18,000 cm³. Then, dividing this value by 5,000 gives the desi value: 18,000 / 5,000 = 3.6. This means that the desi value of this particular package for international shipping is calculated as 3.6.

This adjustment allows for a more precise determination of volumetric weight in international logistics. In other words, for international shipments, it is necessary to use 5,000 cm³ in desi calculations. With this technique, it will be possible to transport your items in the most appropriate and accurate way.
